Stabbing Incident Near La Junta Municipal Building Leads to Two Arrests

On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at approximately 10:34 hours, officers with the La Junta Police Department responded to the 10 block of E 7th Street for a report of a stabbing incident.

Upon arrival, officers located witnesses who reported that a male subject had been stabbed and identified a female party at the scene as the suspect. Officers quickly detained the female suspect without incident.

The male party who had sustained the stab wound had fled the scene as officers arrived. Officers initiated an immediate search and were able to locate the male shortly thereafter. He was transported by ambulance to Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center (AVRMC) for medical treatment.

The individuals involved have been identified as Cynthia Vasquez and Jonathan Vasquez. Following the investigation, both parties were taken into custody.

·       Cynthia Vasquez was arrested on the charges of Assault in the First Degree and booked into the Bent County Jail.

·       Jonathan Vasquez was arrested on the charges of Attempted Assault in the First Degree and Menacing. Jonathan was booked in the Bent County Jail.

This incident remains under investigation. No further details are being released at this time. The La Junta Police Department would like to thank the Colorado State Patrol, Otero County Sheriff’s Office and the La Junta Fire Department for their assistance.
