Lamar Community College and Lamar School District Launch LEAP Scholarship to Support Postsecondary Success

Lamar, CO - [May 27, 2025] - Lamar Community College (LCC), in partnership with the Lamar School District, is proud to announce the launch of the Lincoln Education Alternative Plan (LEAP) Scholarship, a new initiative designed to support recent graduates of the Lamar LEAP program as they pursue college credentials at LCC.

The scholarship will provide $1,000 in financial assistance ($500 per semester) to up to 15 eligible LEAP 2026 graduates who enroll at LCC in the Fall 2026 or Spring 2027 semester. Funding sponsored by the district and the College, is considered last-dollar, covering any remaining costs after other qualifying free financial aid is applied, and is designed to remove barriers to postsecondary education and career advancement.

“This scholarship creates a powerful bridge between the transformative work happening at the LEAP and the career-advancing opportunities at LCC,” said Dr. Chad Krug, Superintendent of the Lamar School District. “We are proud to collaborate with LCC to support students in taking their next steps confidently, with the financial and institutional support they need to succeed.”

To qualify, students must have graduated from the LEAP within the last two semesters, receive a referral from the Lamar School District Lincoln School administrator, and be enrolled in a program of study at LCC that leads to a certificate or associate degree. The program is open to Colorado residents and ASSET students who meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements.

“This initiative is a reflection of our shared commitment to educational access, support, and workforce development in southeastern Colorado,” said Dr. Rosana Reyes, President of Lamar Community College. “By investing in our local students through the LEAP Scholarship, we are helping create a seamless and supportive pathway to success. We’re thrilled to partner with the Lamar School District in this meaningful work.”

The LEAP Scholarship complements LCC’s growing portfolio of last-dollar scholarships aimed at removing cost as a barrier to education. It further aligns with state and local efforts to create responsive, community-driven solutions that improve access to higher education and skilled workforce training.
