STATE OF COLORADO LAUNCHES NEW FLEET OF MOBILE FIRE SAFETY AND INVESTIGATIONS TRAILERS

Statewide initiative strengthens fire investigations and empowers communities through hands-on education

LAKEWOOD, COLO. - (June 13, 2025) - To enhance fire investigation efforts and expand public education on fire safety, Fire and Life Safety (FLS), a section of the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) has deployed a new fleet of high-tech mobile trailers across the state. The initiative includes two Arson Investigation Units and four Fire Safety Simulator Trailers—each purpose-built to serve communities with critical tools and training directly where they're needed.

Enhancing On-Scene Investigations

The two new Arson Investigation Units are mobile response trailers equipped with high-level tools for fire scene analysis, documentation, and fieldwork. These units allow DFPC team members to assist local departments in identifying fire origin and cause more efficiently and effectively. With features such as fire pattern analysis tools, scene documentation equipment, and mobile workspaces, the trailers enhance the state's capacity to respond to both structure and wildland fires.

To ensure statewide coverage, the trailers will be strategically positioned on both sides of the continental divide. In addition to supporting DFPC investigations, they will be available to assist local jurisdictions upon request. "Providing our local partners with the resources and equipment they need to conduct fire investigations is crucial and is the driving mission behind our team," said Fire and Life Safety Section Chief Chris Brunette.

Empowering Communities Through Fire Education

Complementing the investigative trailers are four Fire Safety Simulator Trailers, each managed by a regional Community Risk Reduction (CRR) Specialist. These educational units are stationed in Colorado's four quadrants and feature interactive, hands-on learning environments that teach residents how to identify, prevent, and respond to fire hazards.

Colorado fire departments can request a trailer for public events or safety campaigns by contacting their local CRR Specialist. Schools and organizations are encouraged to collaborate with their local fire departments to obtain these resources for upcoming events or school programs. This initiative aims to reach thousands of Colorado residents each year, making fire safety education more accessible than ever before.

This initiative was made possible through the support of state leadership and key partners. DFPC extends our gratitude to Senators Cutter and Ginal for sponsoring SB 23-013, which secured funding for the investigation trailers. He also acknowledged the Colorado Fire Commission for its role in recommending statewide risk reduction strategies through Recommendation 21-04.

"This initiative represents a significant step forward in enhancing our state's ability to address fire-related challenges," said Brunette. "We are deeply thankful to Senators Cutter and Ginal for their sponsorship and to the Colorado Fire Commission for their valuable recommendations."

The trailer deployment is part of a larger effort under the Fire Safe Colorado initiative, which emphasizes community engagement and proactive risk reduction. JHB Group, a firefighter-owned and operated small business located just outside Chicago, is proud to be at the forefront of producing state-of-the-art trailers for the State of Colorado.

By providing essential investigative resources and introducing fire safety education to neighborhoods and schools, the DFPC continues its mission to protect lives, property, and the environment throughout Colorado.
