Double Fatal Crash in Larimer County
Highway 287 is closed in both directions
(LARIMER COUNTY, COLO) - This evening on October 17, 2025, around 6:18 p.m., the Colorado State Patrol responded to a crash involving a 2018 Honda Accord and a 1987 Chevrolet Suburban on Highway 287 at Red Mountain Road.
Approximately three minutes prior to the crash, a citizen dialed 9-1-1 and reported the Honda Accord as a REDDI (Report Every Drunk Driver Immediately).
The Suburban was southbound on Highway 287 at milepost 372 when the Honda traveled from the northbound lane into the southbound lane, As the Honda came into the southbound lane, the driver of the Suburban tried to avoid the crash, struck a guardrail before getting impacted head-on by the Honda. Both vehicles became engulfed in flames, and both drivers were trapped inside their vehicles.
The driver of the Honda and the driver of the Suburban were pronounced dead on scene. The identity of the deceased individuals will be released by the Larimer County Coroner after next of kin has been identified.
The Colorado State Patrol’s Vehicular Crimes Unit is leading the investigation.
Highway 287 at Red Mountain Road is closed in both directions. It is unknown when the roadway will reopen. Drivers are urged to check COtrip.org for updates on the roadway reopening.
