Police Officers with the La Junta Police Department, Otero County Sheriff's Office, and Bent County Sheriff’s Office responded to a mass shoplifting threat at the La Junta Walmart Shopping Center on Monday, November 3, 2025.

Local law enforcement learned of the potential shop lifting threat and treated it seriously on Monday morning by having multiple officers on scene in a coordinated effort to protect public safety and uphold the law.

The threat originated on social media, according to the Public Information Officer.

Multiple agencies were on scene and reported that no mass theft occurred at the La Junta Walmart on Monday morning. 

Police officials said they will take these types of threats seriously and they will take all measures necessary to protect public safety, including a continued police presence in the community.

Local law enforcement agencies involved include The Otero County Sheriff's Office, Bent County Sheriff’s Office, and the La Junta Police Department.
