Colorado State Patrol Wants Victims of Motor Vehicle Theft to Apply for Assistance
(COLORADO) –The Colorado State Patrol is leading the way in providing economic recovery services to victims of motor vehicle theft through the Victims Assistance Grant Application Program.
Victims' support services may include assistance to victims of catalytic converter theft and/or motor vehicle theft. Funding for victims' support is on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to qualification. Applicants must be Colorado residents throughout the process and the current registered owner of the titled vehicle through the Colorado Department of Revenue.
Since 2023, the Colorado State Patrol has been expanding the ways we can help victims of motor vehicle theft. This unique program is intended to bridge the gap between the services that victims’ assistance units across the State provide to victims of qualifying crimes. The qualifying crimes, whether federally enumerated or classified by the Colorado Victims’ Rights Act, do not include motor vehicle theft. That is why this grant opportunity is crucial to enabling the Colorado State Patrol to go above and beyond in serving victims of motor vehicle theft.
This program is intended to assist citizens with some of the unknown or unexpected costs associated with vehicle theft, many of which are generally discovered upon the vehicle’s recovery. Some of the expenses that victims may be eligible for are:
-
Alternative transportation
-
Public transportation
-
Ride-share services
-
Rental vehicle services
-
-
Cleaning and sanitation
-
Towing and storage fees
-
Vehicle repair reimbursement
-
Steering wheel locks and hardening devices
