Obituary
Romaine (Hanes) Alley, lovingly known as Granny to all who knew her, was born August 12, 1935, in Cimarron County, Oklahoma, to Roy B. Hanes and Ruby Lee (Gist) Hanes. Romaine grew up on the family farm, the third of four children and the only girl. She quickly learned that hard work and perseverance were ways of life in the Oklahoma panhandle. Romaine attended school in Keyes, Oklahoma where she graduated high school in 1953. While at Keyes she competed, excelled, and fell in love with basketball. It soon became her favorite sport to play and watch for the rest of her life. After graduating from Keyes, she pursued further education at Oklahoma Christian College in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. She attended college there for one year and then transferred to Panhandle State College in Goodwell, Oklahoma. Her father decided that Oklahoma Christian was too expensive and Panhandle was a better option. At Panhandle she met the love of her life, a football player and upperclassman, Delano John Alley of Stroud, OK. The two were married on March 6,1956. Delano was drafted into the army when he left college and Granny moved with him to both Georgia and Pennsylvania. During Delano’s time in the army, Granny worked in a soda shop and then in a hardware store. After the army, the two returned to Goodwell. After a short time, they moved to Colorado to begin their lives farming and ranching. To their union, 5 boys were born: Delano John Jr., Dana Glenn, Darryl Roy, Joseph Martin, & Jay Norman.
Family and children have always been one of Granny’s top priorities and she never ceased to pour into and support her family throughout their lives. She was happiest when her family was all together and she always seemed to be rejuvenated by the wonderfully chaotic environment. Granny’s house was always filled with children, laughter, and plenty of food.
Romaine left this earthly home to begin her new life on November 30, 2025.
Romaine is preceded in death by her parents Roy & Ruby Hanes, her loving husband Delano Alley, three sons Darryl, Joe & Jay; three brothers Rowan, Royce & Richard Hanes; and one great granddaughter Emalyn Kate Sires.
