Brian Lovato Launches Campaign for Otero County Sheriff Focused on Leadership and Community Trust
After much thought, prayer, and conversations with my family, I am officially announcing my candidacy for Otero County Sheriff.
I am running because I believe the Sheriff’s Office must be led with disciplined structure, clear accountability, and a long-term vision that strengthens both the department and the community we serve.
My leadership journey has prepared me for this responsibility.
I began my career in the United States Air Force, where accountability and mission-first leadership were non-negotiable.
I later led and managed a multi-state private-sector organization overseeing 45 offices, responsible for personnel, budgeting, compliance, and performance at scale.
In Corrections, I rose to Chief of Security, leading complex operations in a high-risk environment where leadership decisions directly impacted safety and order.
Ultimately, I chose to return to local law enforcement to serve this community directly. Today, I serve as a Sergeant, K9 handler, School Resource Officer, Training Coordinator, and Director of the Reserve Academy.
That decision was not about position.
It was about purpose.
Otero County deserves a Sheriff who understands:
• How to lead people
• How to manage budgets responsibly
• How to build a strong internal culture
• How to support deputies with training and clear standards
• How to strengthen trust between law enforcement and the community
This campaign is not about politics.
It is about professional leadership, accountability, and service.
Regardless of the outcome, my commitment to this community will not change. I believe the next four years require steady, experienced, executive-level leadership, and I am prepared to serve.
I respectfully ask for your support.
Leadership. Accountability. Service.
