Colorado Bureau of Investigation Establishes Tip Lines for Concerns Related to Costilla County Sheriff's Office Alleged Misconduct
April 2, 2026 – CBI – Costilla County, CO –The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has established a dedicated phone line and email for tips so community members can share information about potential misconduct by personnel at the Costilla County Sheriff's Office.
The CBI opened these lines in light of the ongoing investigation by the 12th Judicial District Attorney's Office. This investigation followed misconduct reports from Costilla County residents and resulted in indictments against the former Costilla County Sheriff, Undersheriff, and three deputies.

For the phone number, callers should leave a message with their name, contact information, and the complaint. CBI personnel will be monitoring both the email and phone lines.
On March 26, 2026, the 12th Judicial District Grand Jury issued indictments charging the Sheriff, Undersheriff, and deputies with various crimes, including second-degree assault, abuse of a corpse, official misconduct, and failure to intervene. The charges in the indictments are allegations, and all defendants are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty.
