Army Veteran Vic Meyers Officially Named Democratic Candidate for HD-47 in Colorado
Vic Meyers is proud to announce that, as of today, April 11, 2026, he is the official Democratic Party candidate for Colorado House District 47. Having no competition at the county assembly and with no candidates submitting petitions, Vic will move on to the November election.
Vic is a lifelong resident of Southern Colorado. He was born and raised in Pueblo County, and has lived in Trinidad for the last 25 years. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Sergeant in the 101st Airborne Division as a flight engineer on a CH-47 Chinook Helicopter. He started his college education in August of 1990 before being recalled to active duty for Operation Desert Storm. He eventually completed his bachelors of science in Mathematics at CSU Pueblo.
He’s been married to Kelly for 32 years. Together they have three children and six grandchildren. He served on the Trinidad School Board from 2007-2011.
Vic’s life has been one of public service. First as a soldier and then with a 17-year career with the Colorado Department of Corrections. He left his DOC career and became a middle school Math teacher; then coordinator for the Communities That Care program in Huerfano County. He currently works for a security contractor in a federal building.
As a legislator Vic’s primary goal is to make Colorado strong enough to remain independent and able to withstand federal overreach. He plans to do this by working to limit the use of license plate readers and facial recognition. He feels that AI should not be weaponized to infringe on our rights to live without being under government surveillance. He also believes that strengthening public school funding, protecting rural health care, and bolstering family-based agriculture are crucial to keeping Colorado strong and independent.
“Growing up in rural Colorado, I always heard about the federal government intruding on states,” said Meyers. “In 2026, it’s not only becoming true; but the very party that always preached it are the ones doing the overreaching. It’s time for FDR Democrats like me to stand up and do our part.”
