Obituary

Leonard S. Wine (aka Len or Steve), passed away peacefully on April 23, 2026, while in hospice care in La Junta, CO.

Steve was born on February 17, 1934 in Urbana, Illinois. He was the eldest of four sons of Leonard E. and Bessie P. (Stevenson) Wine. After his graduation from Papillion High School in Nebraska, Steve enlisted in the Air Force and spent 4 years as a radar technician. He and JoAnn Martin were married in Sterling, CO on August 2, 1959. Steve and JoAnn had two children, their son Len and daughter Cindy.

Over the years, the family moved from Littleton to Colorado Springs to Black Forest. Eventually, Steve and JoAnn settled in Rocky Ford, CO. In addition to his time in the Air Force, Steve had a varied career which included time as an electronics technician at Martin Marietta and Kaman Nuclear Sciences, as well as insurance, investments and car sales. Steve loved aviation and flying and had his private pilots license. He also loved spending time with his friends watching the Denver Broncos games.

Steve is survived by his youngest brother Gary, his children Cindy and Len, 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

The family has decided on a private memorial service.
