Bear Fire Near Trinidad Grows to 120 Acres, Evacuations Ordered Near Bear Springs Trail on Las Animas Ranch Near Delhi

A rapidly growing wildfire north of Trinidad has prompted evacuation orders as firefighters work to contain the blaze now known as the Bear Fire.

According to Las Animas County fire officials, the fire ignited Wednesday afternoon near County Road 78.9 and had expanded to approximately 120 acres by late afternoon. The fast-moving wildfire is burning north of the PiƱon Canyon Maneuver Site, a military training area used by troops from Fort Carson.

The Las Animas County Sheriff's Office has ordered evacuations for residents along Bear Springs Road near Delhi as fire crews respond to the growing threat.

Residents in the area reported seeing multiple helicopters arriving to assist ground crews with suppression efforts as fire activity increased throughout the afternoon.

The Colorado Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHSEM) confirmed state resources have been deployed, announcing that an Area Field Manager is supporting Las Animas County in response to the Bear Springs Fire.

Officials are urging residents in evacuation zones to leave immediately and follow instructions from emergency personnel. Authorities also announced that large livestock can be relocated to the Las Animas County Fairgrounds for temporary shelter.

No injuries have been reported at this time. Fire officials continue to monitor conditions as crews work to contain the wildfire.
