Highway 36 Reopened After Pedestrian Seriously Injured in Boulder County Crash

(Boulder County, COLO) - Yesterday, June 27, 2026, at about 3:45 p.m., Colorado State Patrol responded to a crash on Highway 36 westbound near milepost 41, east of Boulder, for a crash involving a pedestrian.

The investigation shows a Mercury Mountaineer, driven by a 48-year-old female from Boulder, was broken down in the center lane of westbound Highway 36 near milepost 41. An Acura RDX pulled onto the left shoulder of the westbound Highway 36. The driver, a 24-year-old male from Castle Rock, exited the RDX and began to walk towards the Mountaineer. A Honda CR-V, driven by a 31-year-old male from Denver, was traveling westbound in the same lane as the Mountaineer. The CR-V braked and swerved left to avoid the Mountaineer, going through the express lane and colliding with a concrete barrier on the front driver's side. After the collision, the CR-V overcorrected to the right and struck the pedestrian with the front of the vehicle. The CR-V continued its path of travel over the westbound lanes of traffic and struck the guardrail on the right shoulder before coming to rest.

The 48-year-old female driver of the Mountaineer and the 31-year-old male driver of the CR-V suffered no injuries. The 24-year-old male pedestrian was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Highway 36 was reopened at about 6:57 p.m.

Westbound Highway 36 Closed at Milepost 41

(Boulder County, COLO) – Today, June 27, 2026, at about 3:45 p.m., Colorado State Patrol responded to a crash on Highway 36 westbound near milepost 41, east of Boulder, for a report of a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian.

The initial investigation shows a Mercury Mountaineer SUV broke down in the center lane of travel. Pedestrians began to walk towards the vehicle on both shoulders. A Honda CR-V SUV, traveling westbound in the same lane as the Mercury Mountaineer, attempted to avoid the Mountaineer, lost control, and swerved into the inside shoulder, striking a male pedestrian. The pedestrian was transported to an area hospital, and there are no updates on injury status at this time.

Highway 36 westbound is closed for crash investigation, with traffic being diverted to McCaslin Blvd. Eastbound traffic is currently open. There is currently no estimated time for the road to reopen. Check COTrip.org for the most up-to-date road closure information.
