Ferris Fire Grows on Western Flank as Crews Build Lines Near Dolores Canyon Rim

Description: Fire crews reported significant growth on the Ferris Fire’s western flank, with dozers, masticators, and Scooper aircraft supporting containment efforts near Dolores Canyon and McPhee Reservoir.

Fire crews experienced significant growth on the western flank of the fire between Division A and C, as well as Division F around Benchmark Lookout. On Division A, fire crews are enforcing NFSR 509 and 514 as a northern barrier. On the western rim of Dolores Canyon (Division J and C), crews are using masticators and dozers to construct a fire line in front of private land and infrastructure along the entire canyon rim.

We are anticipating another round of the Scooper aircraft on McPhee reservoir today. Yesterday they dropped roughly 73,000 gallons on the Ferris Fire. Scoopers will be using entire reservoir in 15-20 minute intervals. Plateau Canyon and Dry Canyon inlets will not be impacted but recreationists should remain alert and stay within 100 feet from the shoreline, 50 feet if possible. Recreationists can expect to see Forest Service #40 boat patrolling on the reservoir today.
