Colorado State Patrol Seeking the Public’s Help

(ELBERT COUNTY, COLO) - The Colorado State Patrol is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect involved in a physical altercation on eastbound I-70 at milepost 347 (west of Limon) on July 5, 2026, at approximately 7:33 p.m.

Preliminary information indicates a tow truck operator was preparing to tow a disabled vehicle from the shoulder of I-70. The tow truck driver was walking towards his driver’s side door when he waved at the passing suspect male driver to move over. The male suspect then stopped his vehicle in front of the tow operator’s vehicle and engaged in a physical altercation with the tow operator.

Following the incident, the suspect fled the scene in a silver 2007 Dodge Dakota pulling a two-wheel car hauling five tires in the truck bed, bearing Colorado license plate AEMF22. The suspect was last seen heading eastbound on I-70.

The suspect was described as a white male approximately 6 feet tall, in his mid-50s, with a receding hairline and long hair in the back. In addition, the suspect was last seen wearing jean overalls, a white T-shirt referencing a Utah national park.

The tow operator, a 51-year-old male, was transported to a local area hospital with serious bodily injury.
