Head-On Crash on Highway 184

Both directions of the roadway are closed

(MONTEZUMA, COLO) - The Colorado State Patrol responded to a two-vehicle crash on July 28, 2026, at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Highway 184 at milepost 3, west of Dolores, CO.

The crash involved a Dodge pickup truck and a recreational vehicle (RV).

Prior to the crash, the Dodge was reported through a REDDI (Report Every Dangerous/Drunk Driver Immediately) call for weaving all over the roadway.

Preliminary reports indicate the Dodge was eastbound and crossed into the opposing lane and its front driver’s side collided with the RV’s front driver's side. 

The driver of the Dodge, an 84-year-old male, was pronounced dead on scene. The driver of the RV, a 49-year-old male, was pronounced dead on scene. The identity of both drivers will be released by the Montezuma County Coroner once next of kin have been notified. 

Highway 184 at milepost 3 is closed in both directions. It is unknown when the roadway will reopen. There is a detour in place onto Road 25. 

This case remains open and under investigation; no cause has been determined at this time.
