Early Morning Garage Fire Spreads to Camper in La Junta; Crews Contain Blaze, No Injuries Reported

At approx 716am this morning we responded to the 500 blk of E 22nd for a reported structure fire. Upon arrival a garage fully engulfed spreading to a camper next to a house.

Crews pulled 2 hose lines for an aggressive attack to stop the spread of the fire and protect the house. Mutual aid was called from Rocky Ford Fire and Cheraw Fire for water tenders to help with water supply since there was not a close fire hydrant.

Crews continued to extinguish the fire and ended up cutting two trees down that were on fire at the top of them to help extinguish.

No injuries were reported.

Cause of the fire was from a smoldering burn barrel that had stuff escape from it. Thanks to LJPD for traffic control and to OCSO for their assistance.
