A graveside memorial service for Richard Ybarra will be held at 11:30 a.m., Monday, June 30, 2025 at Fort Lyon National Cemetery. Military Committal Rites will be provided by American Legion Post #6 and V.F.W. Post #2411. Per Richard’s request, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation.
Richard Joe Ybarra was born on March 2, 1946 in Ordway, Colorado to Sostenes and Audrey (Cortinez) Ybarra. He passed away on June 22, 2025 in Colorado Springs, Colorado at the age of 79.
Richard grew up in Ordway and Sugar City, attending school at Ordway School. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served two years before transferring to the National Guard in 1967. On January 21, 1967, Richard was united in marriage to Lilly Villarreal. This union was blessed with three children, Richard, Marlene, and Jason. Richard worked various jobs prior to his employment at Fort Lyon Hospital in 1968, where he worked as a CNA, retiring in 2001. He cherished his time working in his yard, casting a fishing line, the tranquility and adventure of camping, following his favorite sports, and watching old westerns. Richard was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather and his love for his family knew no bounds.
Richard is survived by his wife, Lilly Ybarra of the family home; children, Richard A. Ybarra, Marlene Ybarra all of Las Animas, Colorado, and Jason Ybarra of La Junta, Colorado; five grandchildren , Savanna (Eddie) Arellano, Shane Smith all of Pueblo West, Colorado, Jacob Arguello-Ybarra of New Mexico, Aliesia (Lupe) and Malia Ybarra of La Junta, Colorado; two great grandchildren, Aubree and Aveah Arellano; siblings, Steve Ybarra, Bernice (Frank) Ybarra, Danny (Lola) Medina, and Jeanette (Marlon) Langford all of Denver, Colorado; many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Bobby Ybarra and Sammy Ybarra. Valley Funeral and Cremation is in charge of arrangements.
