Bent County Deputies Seize 270 Grams of Meth and Loaded Gun After Suspected DUI Crash in Las Animas
On Sunday, August 10, 2025, at approximately 5:30 AM, deputies with the Bent County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene of a solo vehicle collision at the intersection of Third Street and Bent Avenue. The driver, who had crashed into a utility pole, was evaluated by the Bent County Ambulance Service but declined further medical treatment.
All Parties Considered Innocent Until Proven Guilty in a Court of Law.
Following an investigation, deputies suspected the driver was impaired based on the individual’s statements, behavior, and evidence at the scene.
During a search of the vehicle, deputies discovered approximately 270 grams of methamphetamine as well as a loaded .40 caliber pistol.
The investigation is ongoing. The driver faces multiple charges, including DUI, possession of a controlled substance, and illegal possession of a firearm.
