On August 10, 2025, at approximately 11:48 PM. Officers with the La Junta Police Department was dispatched to the 100 Block of Carson Avenue regarding shots fired. Upon arrival, officers located a victim who had sustained a gunshot wound.

The victim was transported to a local hospital and subsequently transferred to a hospital in the metro area for treatment of their injuries.

Investigating officers have identified the suspect as Chezarary Chavez, 40.

Chavez’s current location is unknown, and he has an active Felony Warrant for his arrest. He should be considered armed and dangerous.
