Obituary
Judith Mae (Fitzsimmons) Heble, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025, at the age of 77. She was born on April 5, 1948, in Dodge City, Kansas, the daughter of Donald and Lillian (Hessman) Fitzsimmons.
Judy grew up in Dodge City and graduated from Dodge City High School in 1966. She later attended Brown Mackie College in Salina, Kansas, where she earned her associate's degree. In 1970, she moved to Cimarron, Kansas, where she met the love of her life, Conrad Heble. They married in December 1971 and spent several years traveling together for construction work before settling in La Veta, Colorado, in 1981—a town she lovingly called home for over 40 years.
Judy devoted her life to her family and community. She was a Girl Scout leader, volunteered at the La Veta Senior Citizen Community Center, and served as a docent at the Fort Francisco Museum. She also worked various jobs throughout her life, including flagging, construction work, and cooking at the senior center. A woman of unwavering faith, Judy was a longtime member of Christ the King Catholic Church in La Veta, where she found comfort and community.
In her spare time, Judy loved to crochet, garden, and tend to her beautiful flowers. She was also an avid collector of salt and pepper shakers—each piece representing her appreciation for life’s simple joys. Her warmth, generosity, and kindness touched all who knew her, and her spirit of love and service will live on in those she leaves behind.
Judy is survived by her daughters, Elzina Heble of Thornton, Colorado, and Antoinette Hill of La Veta, Colorado; grandsons, Evan and Timothy Hill of Gilbert, Arizona; and her brothers, Tracy and Kurt Fitzsimmons, both of Dodge City, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings Marsha Horn, Donald Jr., and Bart Fitzsimmons; and her beloved husband, Conrad Heble, who passed away in 2013.
A Rosary followed by a Funeral mass will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church in La Veta on November 13th, 2025 at 10:00 A.M.
A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. November 14, 2025, at Saints Cyril & Methodius Cemetery in Atwood, Kansas. Family and friends are invited to attend and celebrate Judy’s life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Boot Hill Museum Dodge City, Kansas.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the loving care of the Johnson-Romero Family Funeral Home.
