Lake Pueblo State Park winter boat access shifts to North Ramp on Wednesday

PUEBLO, Colo - Lake Pueblo State Park staff have made a change designating the North Boat Ramp as the only access and departure point for boaters during the winter season. The change is effective Wednesday, Nov. 19 following a scheduled painting of the North Ramp parking lot.

The decision reflects park leadership responsiveness to significant public feedback requesting the change reflected in more than 100 emails over a 48-hour period.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife manages our state parks to best serve our visitors who choose to recreate here,” said Park Manager Joseph Stadterman, Park Manager. “This is a relatively simple change to make and we hope it results in greater convenience for boaters at Lake Pueblo State Park.”

The park features the 4,500-acre Lake Pueblo Reservoir open to boaters year-round. Prior to the upcoming change, winter boat access was limited to the South Boat Ramp. The South Boat Ramp closes for the winter season today at 6 p.m.

The North Boat Ramp departure gate is locked daily. Stadterman noted that boaters will now have to carefully plan their lake departure time or risk their boat being locked in overnight. The North Shore Ramp is open daily from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Boats may stay on the lake 24 hours with proper lighting, but they may only launch or load during ramp and inspection hours. Guests interested in sleeping on the water overnight may do so if their boat is at anchor off shore and equipped with proper lighting. Boaters are not permitted to beach on the shoreline to sleep overnight on or in their boat or to set up camp along the shoreline. All on-board facilities must be self contained and sealed.

Boaters must observe Colorado Boating Statutes and Regulations and display a current registration on each boat. All boats must be inspected at inspection stations located at each boat ramp. Boats may only launch or load during open ramp and inspection hours. The gates to the ramp are closed when inspection stations are not open.
