La Junta Firefighters Contain Late-Night Garage Blaze on W. 4th Street; Improper Ash Disposal Blamed for Fire

Thanksgiving night at approx. 10:26 pm the La Junta Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 1800 block of W. 4th St.

Upon arrival moderate smoke and fire was showing from a detached two car garage.

Cross lays were pulled and crews made a quick offensive attack.

The fire was knocked down on the inside of the garage and crews worked on the exterior of the garage to extinguish the fire.

Crews conducted salvage and overhaul to make sure all hot spots were out.

LJPD blocked the roadway and City of La Junta Electric crew called out to take care of the power.

Cause of the fire was from hot ashes that had been put in a trash can a day or two before.
