CBI Announces Nine Bodies Positively Identified in Davis Mortuary Investigation

January 13, 2026– CBI –  Pueblo, CO – The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the 10th Judicial District Attorney’s Office are providing an update on the ongoing investigation into the Davis Mortuary, confirming that the number of positively identified bodies by the Pueblo County Coroner has climbed from six to nine. The remains identified are from individuals who died between the years 2010 and  2012.

The most recent three identifications were made using Rapid DNA technology thanks to the assistance of ANDE, a Colorado technology company that agreed to help the CBI free of charge. Under the direction of the Pueblo County Coroner’s office in conjunction with the the CBI and 10th Judicial DA’s Office, the remaining 15 bodies are currently undergoing Forensic Genetic Genealogy (FGG)—a process that involves asking a private lab to use public DNA databases, such as GEDmatch, to find distant relatives and build family trees.

This decision was based on poor record keeping by Davis Mortuary, lack of investigative leads, poor condition of the remains and degraded DNA. Although this is a slower process, it is more likely to yield usable results.

The CBI continues to investigate the multiple containers of bones, cremains, and probable human tissue representing an unknown number of deceased individuals.

Investigators with the CBI and the 10th Judicial District Attorney’s Office continue to work diligently on this active investigation. Once completed, the case information will be presented to the District Attorney’s office for review and filing of charges.
