Lamar Police Arrest Man on Felony Warrants After Traffic Stop, Seize Meth, Heroin, Fentanyl and Firearms

On January 8th Lamar Police conducted a traffic contact near the area of the 600 Block Kendall Dr. The stop was conducted after the vehicle plate did not match the vehicle it was presented on, and based upon the actions of the driver, as well as prior knowledge from the officer.
The driver, Richard Wayne Jones of Lamar, and the passenger, Richard Henry William Jones of Canyon City, Colorado, were contacted. After a short investigation, K-9 Taco arrived on scene and positively alerted on the vehicle. Richard Henry William Jones had initially provided false information, and it was determined he had several active felony warrants with cash-only bonds out of Fremont County, Colorado. Officers had been looking for Richard Henry William Jones after receiving information from Fremont County Detectives about his possible involvement in other crimes against persons cases out if their jurisdiction since January 7th, 2026.
Upon a subsequent search of the vehicle and persons, numerous illegal substances and weapons were recovered. Additional search warrants were also conducted as a result of this contact.
Richard Henry William Jones was arrested and transferred to Fremont County Detectives, who responded to take direct custody.

107 Grams Methamphetamine
27 Grams Heroin
118 Fentanyl Tablets
4 Grams Cocaine
Misc Prescription Medications
3 Handguns
Numerous paraphernalia items indicative of narcotics distribution
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
