Local Elks Lodge Steps In So La Junta Students Can Take Home Books

When some La Junta Intermediate students couldn’t afford book fair books, Elks Lodge #701 donated funds to make sure they didn’t go without. The contribution highlights the lodge’s long-standing commitment to youth and education.

On February 25, 2026, the La Junta Elks Lodge, B.P.O.E. #701, donated four-hundred dollars to La Junta Intermediate School so students who could not normally afford to purchase a book from the book fair could. This contribution to the student community made a significant difference for the school children. The school student advocate provided information on which students received a free book.

Elks who attended the presentation included Exalted Ruler Chris Kliesen, Officer Dave McKinney (member for 45 years), and Trustee Elaine McIntyre. The Elks members presented the check to La Junta Intermediate School which allowed students who wouldn't normally be able to purchase books from the book fair choose a book at no cost on Wednesday afternoon in the Intermediate School Library.
