Las Animas PD Seeks Suspect After Escape; School District Issues Secure Status Alert
The Las Animas Police Department is looking for a suspect named Brian Cazares. The suspect escaped custody of the PD while being detained for a violation of Restraining Order. If you see the suspect or have information as to his whereabouts please call 911 immediately to report.
The Las Animas School District reported that LASD buildings were put on "secure" status - students who normally ride a bus will be dropped off at their home. Students who walk will need to be picked up by a guardian or emergency contact from the school. If you cannot pick up your student, please call the office to make arrangements. Students will not be released to walk home on their own.
Due to staffing issues with the lockdown at the school, the Las Animas City Hall Utility Office closed at 4:00 pm.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
