Trash Burning Sparks Brush Fire on Rd 809, LJFD Prevents Spread to Canal and Power Pole
Description: The La Junta Fire Dept. responded to a brush fire on Rd 809 at 9:34 a.m. on March 29, 2026, stopping flames from reaching a canal and power pole. The fire was caused by a burning trash pile and was quickly contained.
Brush Fire Contained Near Canal on Rd 809 After Trash Burn Sparks Morning Incident
At approx 9:34am this morning, (3/29/26) we responded to a reported brush fire in the 27000 blk of Rd 809.
Upon arrival fire was spreading toward the canal.
Crews began attacking the fire from spreading and stopping the fire spreading up a power pole.
Crews worked extinguishing all hot spot.
The cause of the fire was from burning a pile of trash.
Crews returned to service.
