Obituary

Marilyn Sue Laird Wright, age 81, of Holly, Colorado, passed away on April 21, 2026, in Lamar, Colorado.

Sue was born on August 17, 1944, to Earl and Berma Laird, the third of five daughters. She was united in marriage to Warren Eugene Wright on April 17, 1965, at the Holly Assembly of God Church, where their life together began.

Sue had a deep love for music and faithfully served as a pianist for the Assembly of God Church for more than 20 years. She was also a dedicated member of the Holly Handbell Choir. Her musical gifts and servant’s heart blessed her church and community for many years.

Her main hobby was quilting, and she spent countless hours creating beautiful, handmade pieces that will be treasured by her family and friends for years to come.

While raising her children, Curtis and Nicole, Sue was actively involved as the parent leader of the Coolidge Straightshooters 4-H Club, supporting and encouraging youth in their growth and achievements. She was also a hardworking business owner, operating Wright’s Upholstery for over 30 years, where she built lasting relationships through her craftsmanship and dedication.

Sue will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her faith, her music, and her generous, creative spirit. She also had a wonderful sense of humor and was known for her favorite saying, “From the book of Sue,” often shared with a smile and a bit of wisdom.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and quiet strength.

She is survived by her son, Curtis Wright and his wife, Angie, of Moundridge, Kansas; her daughter, Nicole Hubbard and her husband, Jerry, of Joplin, Missouri; her seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; and her 4 sisters, Earline and her husband Gene, Sandy, Rose, and Judy and her husband Terry; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Eugene Wright, and her parents, Earl and Berma Laird.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., April 25, 2026, at Coolidge Cemetery in Coolidge, Kansas.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Holly Ministerial Alliance in care of Valley Funeral & Cremation, P.O. Box 950, Lamar, Colorado 81052.
