Poitrey Canyon Fire Update (April 28, 8AM): 40% Contained at 2,113 Acres as Wind Shift and Dry Conditions Raise Concerns

Poitrey Canyon Fire update 8am 4/28/26

Firefighters achieved 40% containment yesterday, and acreage remains at 2,113 acres.

Cooler temperatures and cloud cover in the afternoon tempered fire behavior, which was limited to creeping along areas of unsecured fireline, and isolated torching in interior pockets of unburned fuel.

Drier conditions are expected today, with a wind shift in the morning due to a passing cold front.

Rugged terrain in canyons mixed with thick vegetation has made suppression efforts in some areas challenging.

There are currently 110 personnel working on the fire.
