The Otero County Board of Commissioners has appointed Kaysie Schmidt as the next County Administrator, effective October 1, 2025.

Schmidt brings more than two decades of experience in healthcare administration, public health, and higher education, with leadership roles at Valley-Wide Health Systems, Otero College, Bent County Public Health, and the Otero County Health Department.

“Kaysie has the skills, experience, and commitment to serve Otero County well,” said Amy White-Tanabe, outgoing County Administrator. “She knows this region, understands the challenges and opportunities we face, and will be an excellent leader for the county’s future.”

As County Administrator, Schmidt will oversee county operations, budgeting, and long-term planning while supporting the Board of Commissioners in carrying out strategic priorities that benefit Otero County residents. A proud native whose family has called Otero County home for more than a century, Schmidt returned to La Junta after completing her studies at Colorado State University in Fort Collins and now lives there with her husband and three of their four children.
