Wind-Driven Agricultural Burn Escapes Control, Ignites Elm Grove Near Road BB
Today at approx 2:04pm we responded to an out of control ag burn in the 23000 blk of Rd BB.
Upon arrival the fire was burning in a large grove of old Elm trees and spreading toward some corrals.
First arriving apparatus started attacking the fire on both ends to keep it from spreading into more trees and brush trucks were sent to the corrals to stop the spread of fire.
Mutual aid was called into Rocky Ford Fire Department since the fire was close to the two fire districts boundary’s and due to the amount of trees on fire and for additional water supply.
DFPC Eng 34 was also on scene for fire suppression and cutting trees. Crews spent over 2 hours making sure all the hot spots were out and had to cut may trees down since the fire raced to the tree tops.
The cause of the fire was from a controlled burn earlier in the day that got away as the wind picked up.
