Springfield Police Arrest Driver with Suspended License and DUI Warrant After Traffic Stop for Multiple Violations

On 03/14/2026 at approximately 20:44 hours, officers with the Springfield Police Department conducted a traffic stop in the 200 block of East 8th Avenue after observing a vehicle operating with multiple apparent equipment and registration violations.

Several SPD officers were out during the evening hours conducting heavy traffic and criminal interdiction operations within the community. During this enforcement activity, officers observed the vehicle and initiated the stop.

Officers also recognized the vehicle as one that has been reported numerous times over the past several weeks for careless and reckless driving along Bonair Street. During those previous calls for service involving the vehicle, officers were generally able to locate the vehicle after the fact when it was already parked and the driver was no longer with it.

During this stop, officers observed that the vehicle displayed what appeared to be expired and fictitious license plates, had a modified exhaust, was not insured and appeared to be in an unsafe operating condition. Upon contact with the driver, officers identified the individual and conducted a records check.

The records check indicated the driver’s license appeared to be suspended related to a prior DUI matter. Officers also located a non-extraditable warrant for Failure to Appear on a DUI from another jurisdiction. A non-extraditable warrant means the issuing agency has decided they will not transport the person from outside their area. Officers can see the warrant in the system, but if the issuing agency will not extradite from that location, the person cannot be held on that warrant alone. The warrant remains active in the issuing jurisdiction.

The driver was placed under arrest for violations observed during the traffic stop.

Law Enforcement Tip of the Day: If your driver’s license appears to be suspended for DUI, you have a DUI-related warrant, and your vehicle appears to have multiple violations, driving to a store to purchase alcohol is probably not the best plan.
