The Women of The Cross

The Witnesses Called Mary

Book By Josephine Kelly

It is a group of women that travel with Jesus to the hills of Golgotha and bear witness to his crucifixion. Women go to the cross when his other disciples must fear discovery. It is a group of women that bear witness to the brutality of the day and stay by His side until…

Josephine Kelly has written a beautiful and mournful play capturing the story of Jesus’ crucifixion and the witnesses of Mary, his mother, Mary Magdalene, and Mary Clopas.

As Jesus utters his final words from the cross it is the women of his ministry that ensure his story is told. The women of the cross are women who have known pain and suffering, who have known loss and grief. But they are also women who have known the joy and hope that comes from a relationship with Jesus Christ. They are women who have been transformed by the power of the cross.

The La Junta United Methodist Church is staging this play with three La Junta actresses:

Molly Johnson Borton as Mary, mother of Jesus Rena Stashia Ruiz as Mary Magdalene, follower of Jesus Kristin Golding Langston as Mary Clopas, aunt of Jesus.

These seasoned actresses have a long list of productions on their resume and are thrilled to be presenting this story at La Junta’s United Methodist Church located at 601 San Juan Ave.

Funds raised from this project will toward matching grant funds for the historic building.
