Colorado State Trooper Struck in La Plata County
Trooper with minor injuries due to the crash
(COLORADO) – This afternoon at 3:14 p.m., Colorado State Patrol trooper Ziegler was traveling on Highway 172 through the intersection of La Plata County Road 311 in La Plata County, Colorado, when her patrol car was struck on the left-rear side by a blue Dodge sedan that failed to stop at a stop sign. Trooper Ziegler’s patrol vehicle then collided with a white Dodge truck before traveling off the south shoulder of Highway 172.
The driver of the blue Dodge sedan and the white Dodge truck were not injured. Neither vehicle had a passenger. The driver of the blue Dodge sedan, a 50-year-old male out of Durango, Colorado, was arrested at the scene for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs (DUI/D).
Trooper Ziegler was transported to an area medical facility by personal vehicle for treatment of minor injuries resulting from the crash. She has been treated and released.
As April 20 (“4/20”) approaches, the Colorado State Patrol is reminding motorists that impaired driving, whether from cannabis, alcohol, or any other substance, puts lives at risk and is not tolerated on Colorado roadways.
Incidents such as these do not have to occur. The Colorado State Patrol reminds drivers to plan a sober ride in advance to ensure everyone makes it home safely.
Arrests and charges are merely accusations until and unless a suspect is convicted of a crime. All suspects and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
